§ 1 ¶ 1-- Space aliens may also be called extraterrestrials (ET's) or EBE's (extraterrestrial biological entities), which is what Philip J. Corso, retired U.S. Army-intelligence officer, says the military calls them in the Pocket Book The Day After Roswell. Corso maintains that the "cold war" was a cover for a more active war against the EBE's and that the balance of power was tipped in favor of the U.S. when Ronald Reagan's Strategic Defense Initiative "deployed our advanced particle-beam weapon and tested it in orbit for all to see." § 1 ¶ 2-- The TIME magazine articles cited twice maintain that there is an element of "faith" involved in the belief in extraterrestrial UFO's (pp. 67 and 71). Awake! magazine (11/8/90, p. 11) concurs, commenting on John H. Andrews' book The Extraterrestrials and Their Reality: "The Bible also speaks of extraterrestrials, spirit creatures, such as obedient angels and disobedient, rebellious angels who became demons." The editors refer to incidents and statements such as those recorded at 1 Samuel 28:7, 8; Ephesians 6:12; Genesis 22:9-18; Isaiah 6:1-7; Luke 4:33, 34; James 2:19; Revelation 12:9; 21:1-4; and
1 Timothy 4:1 in the Bible.
§ 1 ¶ 3-- W. E. Vine's An Expository Dictionary Of New Testament Words indicates that the Greek word angelos may refer to "a messenger" of any kind, or to a "guardian or representative in Rev. I:20, cp. Matt. I8:I0; Acts I2:I5,... Heb. 2:7; Psa. 8:5; Matt. 24:36; Mark I2:25; Luke I2:8...most frequently... Angels are spirits, Heb. I:I4, i.e., they have not material bodies as men have; they are either human in form, or can assume the human form when necessary, cp. Luke 24:4, with ver. 23, Acts I0:3 with ver. 30."

§ 1 ¶ 4-- The One reportedly sent to explain God to us said that "God is a spirit." (John 1:18; 4:24) Apparently the word "angel" denotes function. "Spirit" denotes nature when used to describe an entity. The Greek and Hebrew words translated to the English "spirit" may have several meanings: 1) wind, 2) the vital force in living creatures, 3) one's spirit or dominant motivation, (4) spirit persons, including God and his angelic creatures, and (5) God's active force or holy spirit. All five meanings refer to things invisible to human sight and which give evidence of force in motion. (Koehler and Baumgartner's Lexicon in Veteris Testamenti Libros, Leiden, 1958, pp. 877-879; Brown, Driver, and Briggs' Hebrew and English Lexicon of the Old Testament, 1980, pp. 924-926; Theological Dictionary of the New Testament, edited by G. § 1 ¶ 5-- Vine also cites Mark 8:38, 1 Timothy 5:21, Matthew 25:41, 2 Peter 2:4, Jude 6, 2 Cor. 5:2, and Luke 20:36 in regard to various sorts of angels in various contexts. Vine then adds, "Angels are always spoken of in the masculine gender, the feminine form of the word does not occur." (From Notes on Thessalonians by Hogg and Vine, p. 229.) We mention this latter citation to indicate that common misconceptions about "angels" may prejudice some as to the nature of extraterrestrials. "Female" sex organs were blotted out in what a Bruce Handy TIME article calls the Fox network's "patently hoaxed autopsy of a creature supposedly recovered at Roswell." (op. cit., 6/23/97, p. 65)
§ 1 ¶ 6-- If there is some correlation between extraterrestrials and the "spirit creatures" described in the Bible as "angels," they could not technically be called "space men." The term "space" describes the 'distance between' material particles or between objects made up of material particles. "Spirit" extraterrestrials would, therefore, be in material form only when they were materialized. A true EBE, however, would be perceived in a material (biological) form. He could be termed a "space man." A scientist who worked on Project Sign, 1948-1969, felt that, although the Condon Report claimed that "Nothing has come from the study of UFO's in the past 21 years," some unexplained UFO sightings and experiences involved 'mental perceptions' of some kind. Such non-physical perceptions might occur in cases of telepathic communication or "visions." (Awake!, 11/8/90, p.11)
§ 1 ¶ 7-- John H. Andrews, in researching the book The Extraterrestrials and Their Reality, attributed much of his information to four quite intelligent "ET's in physical human bodies who circulate unnoticed among us." He claims that these materialized extraterrestrials were "quite intelligent...channels for invisible entities"; however, some of the information they communicated is contrary to basic principles otherwise set out in the scriptural account which best describes the true nature of these so-called "extraterrestrials," the Bible. Some is not:
§ 1 ¶ 8-- The fact that John H. Andrews' four ET informants provided information contrary to that in the Bible suggests that they are not actually "in physical human bodies" as he thought, which may explain why they are able to "circulate among us unnoticed." Not everyone may be able to see them as he did. They may be, instead, telepathic "mental perceptions."
1) "There is no such thing as death." (compare Ezekiel 18:4, 20)
2) "There is no such thing as good or evil." (compare Genesis 3:3,4)
3) "Creation, evolution, and reincarnation are valid processes at work in the Universe."
- (compare Genesis 1:1, 24, 25)
- 4) "We (the ET's) are not here to control or rule you, but to guide you."
- 5) "The Earth will soon undergo tremendous, cataclysmic changes. When these
- changes are completed, less than 1/1,000 of the present population will still be
- alive!" (compare Revelation 19:15, 19-21)(Awake! 11/8/90, p. 11)
§ 1 ¶ 9-- Not since the flood in Noah's day, according to Bible documentation, have rebellious "spirits" been able to materialize since they dematerialized to escape drowning. The ability to materialize was apparently taken from them as part of their confinement to "Tartarus," a state described as "pits of dense darkness" where they are "reserved for judgement." This judgement is the same one spoken of by Jesus Christ himself as "the everlasting fire prepared for the Devil and his angels." The demons are fully aware of this judgement, preceded by the "torment" of abyssing. (2 Peter 2:4; Matthew 25:41)(compare Jude 6; Genesis 6:2-8; Matthew 8:29-33; Revelation 20:2)
§ 1 ¶ 10-- A consistent scriptural test to tell whether a "spirit" is faithful or not has been to determine whether or not he is materialized. Jesus materialized several times after his resurrection and before his ascension. Two of these times was among his disciples in a locked room. On one of these and on other occasions, he talked with disciples and ate with them before suddenly dematerializing.(Luke 24:36-40; John 20:26-27)(compare Genesis 18:1-2, 8; 19:1-3; Judges 13:15-20; Luke 24:15-31; John 21:12-14)
§ 2 ¶ 1-- In the docudrama Roswell, a remarkable telepathic message is purported to have been communicated to then United States Secretary of Defense, James V. Forrestal, by an EBE surviving the 1947 Roswell UFO crash. § 2 ¶ 2-- In an essay on "Parapsychology," Gardner Murphy and Laura Dale describe telepathy as an "apparently supernormal" manifestation of mental perception or "externalized apparition," which may be spontaneous in nature or the result of experimental study. Telepathy, clairvoyance, and precognition are apparently related phenomena. Phenomena of this sort, especially dreams or visions believed to predict the future (precognition), and trance states in which utterances are made which purport to come from discarnate spirits, are well known in many pre-literate societies and are common in Oriental and Occidental history.
§ 2 ¶ 3-- Most psychical phenomena are traditionally associated with belief in some sort of communication with the deceased in spirit form. Spirit mediums are persons who seem to mediate between the living and the deceased, or a spirit pretending to be a deceased human. (Compare Ecclesiastes 9:5, 10) "Physical" mediums may produce physical effects such as "materializations," "direct voice," and movement of objects without apparent contact, "psychokinesis." Psychical research is not, as yet, a part of the recognized body of science; there is a lack of any clear evidence as to the relation of the phenomena to specific physiological and physical events.
§ 2 ¶ 4-- J.B. Rhine, at Duke University from 1939, experimented extensively with controllable aspects of such events he termed "extrasensory perception" (ESP). Late in his career, his considered opinion was that it was virtually impossible to scientifically control these phenomena. He ventured, in New World Of the Mind, that just as it seems that an individual might have some control of the manifestations of ESP so that results can successfully be predicted, the manifestations change as if under the control of some external "rascal" forces.
§ 2 ¶ 5-- A researcher named Schmeidler at Harvard and at City College (New York) used experiments patterned after those of Rhine and discovered that results depended, to a great extent, on whether or not her subjects "believed" or "disbelieved" in the reality of ESP. She uses the Biblical terms "sheep" to describe the believers and "goats" to describe the disbelievers. The dependability of ESP studies is subject to criticism because the "experimenters are credulous and careless, or downright dishonest." ("Parapsychology" by Gardner Murphy and Laura Dale, Collier's Encyclopedia, 1962, Vol. 18, pp. 433-438)(See also Matthew 25:31-33)
§ 2 ¶ 6-- As Murphy and Dale indicate, historical examples of telepathy, clairvoyance, and precognition are common in the historical accounts of the Bible, and they are frequently related to the activities of "discarnate spirits."
§ 2 ¶ 7-- An outstanding case is that of dead "Samuel's" supposed appearance to King Saul (c. 1,077 BCE) at the behest of a spirit medium at Endor. From the medium's description of what she saw and heard, Saul assumed that the communicating "spirit" was the dead prophet Samuel, when in fact the prophet Samuel, when alive, would have nothing to do with Saul for a long time prior to his death, from before David's anointing as future king. The fact that Saul resorted to a spiritistic practice condemned in the Bible and by his own decree suggests that he had sunk far from his once-favored position with God.

§ 2 ¶ 8-- Is not, in fact, prayer a form of telepathic communication with spirit beings? Prayer, in several forms, is mentioned often in the Bible as an acceptable form of communication with the Supreme extraterrestrial, God; and God is spoken of as the "Hearer of Prayer." (Psalm 65:2; 66:19) Prayer is also described as worshipful address to false gods, spirit extraterrestrials disobedient to the purposes of the Supreme One. (1 Kings 18:21-39; Deuteronomy 4:19) Adam and Cain spoke with God, but their communications lacked the respectful quality of "prayer." (Genesis 3:8-13, 4:9-14)
§ 2 ¶ 9-- The prophet Daniel, while captive in Babylon (618-c. 536 BCE), prayed openly to God, received information by means of visions, and conversed with a spirit messenger from God in several telepathic and precognitive visions. (Daniel 6:10, 2:19, 8:1, 13, 15; 9:2-4, 21-22; 10:5-7, 9; 12:5-9) His experiences are no less than an extraordinary sampling of many similar events recorded throughout history. (Acts 10:3, 9-23; 11:5-12; 22:17-18; Genesis 15:1-21; 46:1-4; Isaiah 6:1-8) There is also evidence of "false visions." (Jeremiah 23:16; Ezekiel 13)(See also Insight On the Scriptures, op. cit., "Vision," Vol. 2, pp. 1158-1160)
§ 2 ¶ 10-- Numbered among the visions recorded in the Bible are three which are astonishingly vehicular in form. The first we will mention was seen by Ezekiel while he was in exile in Babylon (c. 613 BCE). What he terms an "appearance of the likeness of the glory of Jehovah" spoke to Ezekiel, informing him that he was being sent to deliver a series of messages to the sons of Israel, "sons insolent of face and hard of heart." Ezekiel recognized the import of the visions' symbolism of the operations by which he was being commissioned to carry out a difficult task. He was also warned not to become rebellious as the sons of Israel were rebellious. Ezekiel was not invited aboard the UFO to depart for a distant planet. On the contrary, he seemed prepared to understand the significance of the vision, not as a personal phenomenon, but in reference to God's will for his people. Ezekiel accepted and carried out the assignment as instructed. (Ezekiel 1:1-28)
§ 2 ¶ 11-- Ezekiel saw above the chariot something like a sapphire throne. Upon the throne was a likeness of someone in appearance like an earthling man with the appearance of fire and brightness all around, which Ezekiel identifies as the "appearance of the likeness of the glory of Jehovah." A similar chariot appears again in another vision about a year later. The experience is recorded in Chapters 8-10 of Ezekiel, and the "glory of the God of Israel" was there again, this time to transport Ezekiel, "in the visions of God," on a tour of the "detestable things" in and around the temple in Jerusalem hundreds of miles from Ezekiel's location near the River Chebar near Babylon where he saw the first vision. As part of his visionary tour, Ezekiel was invited to "Enter in between the wheelwork" of the chariot, not to be transported, however, because it was "a spirit itself" that eventually returned him "in the vision by the spirit of God" to his house in Chaldea, where he had remained sitting during the entire vision, with the older men of Judah sitting before him as witnesses of his being in a trance.
§ 2 ¶ 12-- Several hundred years later (c. 96 CE), John, in exile on the Isle of Patmos, saw in vision "through an opened door in heaven" a throne similar to that seen by Ezekiel; however, it's appearance was as if of red-colored jasper stone. The same four living creatures that Ezekiel called cherubs (angels of high rank) were there, and John was likewise given an assignment to deliver a bitter message, this time to the whole of mankind, "to peoples and nations and tongues and many kings." (Revelation 4:1-5:5; 10:1-11)
§ 2 ¶ 13-- The third UFO we will describe appeared as a "chariot of fire" seen by two humans, Elijah and Elisha (c. 917 BCE). This UFO appeared, as in the previously described cases, not as a saucer shape, but as something the two humans, with their singular experience, could understand: "a fiery war chariot and fiery horses," and Elijah became, perhaps, the first historical victim of "alien abduction." (2 Kings 2:11) He was taken up in the "windstorm" created by the UFO to the "heavens," apparently the aerial "midheavens" discussed in the next section, because he was merely transported to another location on earth. We may deduce this, because years later, Elijah wrote a letter whose contents are recorded at 2 Chronicles 21:1, 12-15. It is noteworthy that in his letter Elijah mentions nothing of his abduction experience in the "windstorm," but, characteristically, delivers a stinging message to the king of Judah, a message from "Jehovah the God of David your forefather."
§ 2 ¶ 14-- The temporary and localized nature of Elijah's abduction was later attested to by none other than one who was likely invisibly present on the occasion of the abduction. Speaking of ascending into the invisible "heavens," this unimpeachable authority stated, "No man has ascended into heaven [explained below] but he that descended from heaven, the Son of man [Jesus himself]." (John 3:13)
§ 2 ¶ 15-- Considering only a portion of the voluminous evidence, it becomes obvious that it is certainly not beyond the scope of probability that the invisible Supreme One has used his "cosmic companions," the angels, to deliver messages to humans for them to deliver, messages not always fully understood at the time, and to instruct them that these messages be written down and preserved for the edification and protection of later generations. (Daniel 12:8-10; Revelation 21:5-8; 22:18-19)
§ 2 ¶ 16-- Since there are warnings involving 'adding to' and 'taking away from' these "inspired" writings, it becomes equally obvious that there are likely counterfeit "inspired" writings and prophecies to be avoided because they are the misleading utterances of God's enemies, visible and invisible. (1 Timothy 4:1; Galatians 1:8; Revelation 16:14; Matthew 24:23-28; 2 Thessalonians 2:3-12)
§ 3 ¶ 1-- The docudrama Roswell mentioned a parallel, invisible universe because the concept has captured the interest of several investigators. According to this explanation, EBE's are superior beings that may be "able to manipulate the electrical circuits of the human mind." (UFO and The Limits of Science, by Ronald D. Story.) § 3 ¶ 2-- The idea of such an invisible, parallel universe, however is not a new one. The Bible term "heavens" often describes just such an invisible universe. Some may confuse the term with the same word used to describe the visible "heavens" made up of sun, moon, and stars, the sidereal heavens. W.E. Vine's An Expository Dictionary Of New Testament Words defines three distinct meanings for the Greek word ouranos:
- a) the aerial heavens or mid-heavens where birds fly (also mesouranema,
- "middle of the heavens"),
- b) the sidereal heavens, the sky, where we view the stars, and
- c) the invisible heavens which is the "eternal dwelling place of God...
- the abode of the angels."
§ 3 ¶ 3-- a) and b) are spoken of as "created by God," whereas c) is so inextricably associated with the nature of God that it is used by metonymy for "God" in the illustration of the prodigal son at Luke 15:18, 21 and in such expressions as the "kingdom of the heavens," also referred to as the "kingdom of God" in many places.
§ 3 ¶ 4-- The adjectival forms ouranios and epouranios, "heavenly" are used a) as an appellation of God, b) as descriptive of the holy angels, and c) of the vision seen by Paul, Acts 26:19, from God as well as of beings and things, animate and inanimate, that are "above the earth," denoting relative physical location as well as superiority as to quality. (Vine, op.cit., pp. 208-9)
§ 3 ¶ 5-- In the Hebrew, the term "heavens," sha-ma-yim (always plural) seems to have the basic sense of that which is high or lofty (Psalm 103:11; Proverbs 25:3; Isaiah 55:9) There is no doubt in the scriptures that all physical, and many invisible beings and things, were "created" by some means because of the "will" of the Supreme One. (Revelation 4:11; Job 38:4-12, 33; Jeremiah 33:22, 25)
§ 3 ¶ 6-- Isaiah 40:26, in fact, suggests that God, well in advance of Albert Einstein's discovery of relativity, was able to create the material universe from abundant "dynamic energy" which already existed within His sphere of influence in the parallel, invisible universe known as the "heavens." Physicists propounding the so-called "Big Bang" theory now freely use the term "creation" among their calculations, because it has become obvious, when they trace the origins of primary subparticles beyond two in number and beyond the first split second of the "Big Bang," there exists no particulate matter, only energy and evidence of an intelligent director of the energy described. It is also quite likely that a basic and practical knowledge of physics has been and will be utilized to send "fire of Jehovah" from heaven on occasion for the destruction of people and objects offensive to Him or simply to demonstrate support of his servants. (Genesis 19:24; 1 Kings 18:38; Revelation 20:9)
§ 4 ¶ 1-- Charles Darwin recognized when he published Origin Of Species that there were "missing links" in his theory of evolution. He offered the hope that increased fossil evidence would provide the missing links. Archeologists today are beginning to realize that the missing links are simply not there. Their reasoning has been that conditions were not right for the preservation of fossils of every species that ever existed on earth. (Newsweek, "Is Man a Subtle Accident?" § 4 ¶ 2-- Darwin was also aware that the vast majority of natural mutations, which he credited for the introduction of new characteristics, are what he termed "deleterious," destructive rather than constructive or useful. Spontaneous mutations are, furthermore, usually only minor alterations. Richard Goldschmidt, a geneticist, remarked, "If a thousand mutations were combined in one specimen, there would still be no new species." (Darwin Retried, Norman Macbeth, 1971, p. 33) Is it not, however, possible that constructive mutations could be engineered by extraterrestrials knowledgeable in animate anatomy and in the life force itself? Reports of alien "abductions" for the sake of apparent anatomical research or "experimentation" might be evidence of a continuing interest in the future of the human race on the part of extraterrestrials. § 4 ¶ 3-- The "handbook" of extraterrestrial intervention in earth's affairs might well turn out to be what many now call the Holy Bible. The first installment of the account was apparently delivered to Adam, judging by the "colophons" found at the conclusions of the separate accounts in Genesis as copied by Moses around 1513 BCE. The record was gradually expanded by eyewitnesses, Adam and his descendants: 2:4 (heavens); 5:1 (Adam); 6:9 (Noah); 10:1 (Noah's sons); 11:10 (Shem); 11:27 (Terah); 25:12 (Ishmael); 25:19 (Isaac); 36:1 & 36:9 (Esau); and 37:2 (Jacob).
§ 4 ¶ 4-- The original account, ending with the colophon at Genesis 2:4, contains information that Adam could not have personally witnessed and, with his limited scientific education, could hardly have guessed. It indicates that the "kinds" of plant and animal life reproduce within the boundaries set by the "super species" designation, "kind." Biologists recognize that animals still reproduce according to their kinds as the original account states and that whenever animals approach the border of the kind, as in the case of a horse mating with a donkey, the result, the mule, is a hybrid, unable to reproduce, a safe-guard against transgressing the "kind" boundary.
§ 4 ¶ 5-- A biologist once told your writer that, although science recognizes the boundaries between kinds at present, they feel that the natural law has somehow spontaneously changed, allowing for evolution from one kind to another until the point where the law changed. When the biologist was asked if he knew of a similar spontaneous change in any other natural laws, he was unable to specify any precedent for the theory. He was also reluctant to admit that since the boundaries between kinds exist today, evolution from one kind to another has, logically, ceased.
§ 4 ¶ 6-- The stages of development for the earth laid out in the original account in Genesis agree with scientific findings: 1) an earth formless and waste, clouded in darkness, 2) a gradual division between lightness and darkness as gravity collated the accumulating elements, 3) a mantle of water vapor above an expanse of atmosphere, making for a green-house climate earthwide, 4) the appearance of dry land as the crust continued to cool and shrink, 5) the appearance of vegetation, 6) the clarifying of the mantle so that luminaries became visible from the surface of the earth, 7) the appearance of large marine animals and flying creatures, 8) the appearance of land animals suitable for domestication and wild animals, and finally 9) mankind, who was "created" with the purpose of having in "subjection" the rest of earthly creation. 10) The eye-witness accounts of Noah and his sons describe the cataclysmic deterioration of the mantle of water vapor with concommitant changes in the earth's climate and plant and animal lifestyles. (Genesis 1:1-28; 6:1-9:16; 2 Peter 3:5-6)
§ 4 ¶ 7-- Some argue that, although the staging is accurate, the timing, and any "purpose" is questionable because of the mention of "evening and ...morning" at the conclusion of each creative "day." They argue that the earth was obviously not created in seven 24-hour days, and the scriptural account agrees. Genesis 2:3-4 indicates that the Hebrew word translated "day" may encompass periods of various lengths. The One whom God sent to explain these things to us verified that God "has been resting" from his creative works some 6,000 years since the seventh day began after the "creation" of Adam, and He continues resting to this day. At John 5:12, Jesus Christ is reported to have said of his "Father and God", concerning work on the Sabbath, "My Father has kept working until now [in spite of his Sabbath resting], and I keep working." This expression also indicates a relativistic understanding of the word "work," distinguishing between "creative" work and "maintenance" operations. (See also John 20:17; Galations 6:15-16)
§ 4 ¶ 8-- Genesis 2:4 speaks of the "day that Jehovah God made earth and heaven," obviously, in this case, the "day" is an extended period including all seven creative "days." Genesis 1:16 speaks of the sun dominating the "day" and the moon and the stars, the "night." This day would be only a fraction of the 24-hour day made up of daylight and darkness. Genesis 1:5 says that the light was called Day and the darkness Night, without reference to the dimension of time. Evidently, the Hebrew expression translated "evening and morning" may indicate the progression from apparent confusion to clarity of purpose within a creative period of undetermined length. Neither, therefore, are the "creative" days, necessarily, of a consistent length.
§ 4 ¶ 9-- No detailed explanation of how the various new "kinds" were created without connecting "links" is provided in the scriptural record, however, there is a possible clue in the manner by which Adam received his wife, Eve. Genesis 2:21-22 presents a succinct description of a surgical procedure, including preparation, anaesthesia, and closure of the incision, cloaning with a difference. Following the procedure, Adam exclaimed, "This is at last bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh." In this case, however, the "cloan" was female rather than male.
§ 4 ¶ 10-- The immaculate conception of Jesus Christ might easily be understood as a sort of surgical procedure, perhaps psychic surgery because no incisions nor anaesthetics are indicated in the account at Luke 1:26-38. A virgin girl, Mary, is visited by an extraterrestrial messenger named Gabriel, with the purpose of explaining the procedure to Mary and gaining her permission. The explanation includes the following description of the procedure, "Holy spirit will come upon you, and power of the Most High will overshadow you. For that reason also what is born will be called holy, God's Son." What was implanted was apparently not any sort of sperm, but rather an existing life force, transferred from the parallel, invisible realm, into an "artificially" fertilized egg, a procedure for which there had never before been a need, nor will ever again be experienced. (Luke 1: 35; John 1:14; John 8:58; Philippians 2:5-11) Some religious writings, however, would have us believe that this particular, extraordinary event is a common occurance, that all humans start out in heaven and, passing the muster of life on earth, ascend back to heaven.
§ 4 ¶ 11-- We can only wonder why the instigators of more recent "alien abductions" and "experimental" procedures have not been as civilized in their approach as was the angel Gabriel and the One who sent him to deliver his message.
§ 4 ¶ 12-- Certainly a procedure with kindness as its motive was necessary to provide a particularly favorable environment suitable for the human "deliverer." The circumstances required that he be, genetically, not a son of Adam, not possessing Adam's tendency to prideful rebellion. (Compare 1 Corinthians 15:45-47) Spurious writings would brush away his qualifications as "ransom" as unremarkable. (1 Timothy 2:5-6) The one born to the virgin Mary was, after his baptism, also able to utilize "Holy spirit," power from God, to perform "psychic surgery," miracles of healing, to the extent of raising several individuals from the dead. Jesus, also by means of "Holy spirit," often used clairvoyance and/or psychokinesis, thereby impressing his disciples with his supernormal abilities. (John 1:48-49; 20:25-17; 21:3-6; Matthew 17:27; 3:16-17; 8:16; 9:35; 12:15; Mark 1:29-31; 4:37-41; 6:46-51; Luke 7:11-15; 17:11-19; John 11:1-4, 15, 40; 9:1-7)(See also Insight On the Scriptures, "Miracles," Vol. 2, pp. 411-414.)
§ 4 ¶ 13-- Jesus's apostle Peter, on Pentecost following Jesus's death as a human and ascension as a powerful spirit creature back to the "heavens," explained to Jews in convention in Jerusalem that Jesus's "powerful works and portents and signs that God did through him" were designed to identify Jesus as the Messiah, the one chosen and sent by God, the one they had been expecting as a deliverer. Jesus was able to confer a degree of his "psychic" abilities to his disciples, and the evidence indicates that they were able to confer these miraculous abilities until the last of the apostles died. Then the miracles by Holy spirit "ceased" because the congregation was able to survive and grow without such spectacular manifestations. (1 Corinthians 13:8; Acts 2:22)
§ 4 ¶ 14-- It is not beyond the realm of possibility that extraterrestrials, as we have come to understand the term, have chosen to direct and guide the development of life forms on earth by purposefully "tampering" with genes and DNA so as to "create" specific characteristics, mental and spiritual as well as physical, thereby jumping the normal boundaries of the "kinds." With this understanding in position, "missing links" are to be expected, and it is quite appropriate that God might remark to his Son and "Master worker," "Let us make man in our image." (Genesis 1:26; Proverbs 8:26-30) Since the Supreme One and His first Creation, called the "Word" at John 1:14, were certainly not physical beings at the time, it also becomes obvious that their "image" included free will as an endowment rather than pertaining to any physical characteristics. Apparently all physical life forms prior to man's creation operated primarily by means of instinct rather than free will.
§ 4 ¶ 15-- It would also be no exaggeration to term such original invention "creation," even though there might be similarities among the various creations of the one Creator. We can hardly blame anyone unfamiliar with the process for mistaking similarities among the creations of a single, intelligent will as evidence of natural evolution, i.e., gradual development from kind to kind, unless, of course, their motive is to somehow escape any gratitude to the One responsible for their existence in their present form, and unless they willingly and unscrupulously ignore and cover up facts in order to maintain some supposed "independence" from an obviously altruistic, though invisible, neighbor. (Esquire, Malcolm Muggeridge reviewing The Ascent Of Man by Jacob Bronowski, 7/74, p. 53; New Scientist, "Letters," 5/13/82, p. 450; The Origin Of Species, Charles Darwin, 1956 ed., introduction by W.R. Thompson, pp. xxi-xxii)(See also Awake!, 4/8/90, p. 8, where authors Hoyle and Wickramasinghe are quoted as observing, "The theory that life was assembled by an intelligence" is "vastly" more probable than spontaneous generation. "Indeed," they add, "such a theory is so obvious that one wonders why it is not widely accepted as being self-evident. The reasons are psychological rather than scientific." The authors add that Darwinism simply replaces the word "God" with the word "Nature." [Compare Romans 1:24-25])
§ 4 ¶ 16-- It now becomes appropriate that the Cosmic King, his Master worker, and his "angels" be concerned about developments interfering with their "unity" of purpose in behalf the earth and its inhabitants. It is probably also not without purpose that wherever "God" created in the Holy scriptures, it is written, "the gods" created in the Mormon writings. The Mormon theologians may explain that the Hebrew word translated "gods" is plural, elohim. Any translator worth his salt is aware that the "plural of majesty" may apply in the case of a Hebrew noun describing a singular person, explaining why many of the Hebrew plurals are translated to the singular Greek, as theos "God." Insight On the Scriptures, Vol. 1, p. 968, states, "'Elo-him' is used in the Scriptures with reference to Jehovah himself, to angels, to idol gods (singular and plural), and to men." There is no reason to believe that angels, who may have later rebelled, did not take part in the development of new animal kinds, including humankind and, with some vestigial powers, may continue to pursue their interest in further human developments. (1 Peter 1:12) It is also in the interests of God's enemies to hide his identity by obscuring his name, his qualities, and his purposes. (The Watchtower, WB&TS, 10/1/97, pp. 16-20)
§ 5 ¶ 1-- As mentioned above, a remarkable telepathic message is purported to have been communicated to then United States Secretary of Defense, James V. Forrestal, by an EBE surviving the 1947 Roswell UFO crash. The message was to the effect that there would soon be an invasion of the earth by extraterrestrials in large numbers. The docudrama Roswell indicates that Secretary Forrestal was troubled by the enormity of the prospect. Eugene S. Duffield, in a biographical essay for Collier's Encyclopedia, verifies that Forrestal did, in fact, fall to his death on the night of May 21-22, 1949, while under psychiatric care on the sixteenth floor of the Naval Hospital at Bethesda, Maryland.Click here to return to the top of the page...
§ 5 ¶ 2-- Duffield, however, claims that Forrestal resigned the previous March 2 and left office March 28 because he believed he had failed to arrange for adequate cold war protection for his country. He had persuaded the joint chiefs of staff, in late 1948, to agree on a strategic plan and a related military budget of $16,900,000,000. President Truman, who is reported in the recent television series "Dark Skies" to have been present at Roswell in a May, 1947, confrontation that resulted in the shooting down of an alien ship, stood pat on his own ceiling figure of $14,400,000,000. The account maintains that this "failure," perhaps along with several other "failures," after driving himself to exhaustion, sank Forrestal into the severe depression which led to his requiring psychiatric treatment. It would seem that Truman was not as concerned about the alien threat as was his Secretary of Defense. To the knowledge of the writer, however, no one claims total historic accuracy for the "Dark Skies" episodes.
§ 5 ¶ 3-- You may recall that Philip J. Corso, retired U.S. Army-intelligence officer, maintains in the Pocket Book The Day After Roswell, that the "cold war" was a cover for a more active war against the EBE's (extraterrestrial biological entities) and that the balance of power was not tipped in favor of the U.S. until Ronald Reagan's Strategic Defense Initiative "deployed our advanced particle-beam weapon and tested it in orbit for all to see" many years later. (TIME, 6/23/97, p. 66.) In many ways, Corso's version of the "cold war" as an imminent EBE invasion seems a cause more in proportion to the severity of Forrestal's depression than his combined recent "failures": failure to persuade Truman to lift Middle Eastern diplomatic policy out of domestic politics; failure to devise some acceptable check on the Communist tide in China; failure of politicians around Truman to understand why Forrestal was not campaigning for Truman's re-election in 1948; and failure to persuade Truman to agree to his military strategy and budget. (Collier's Encyclopedia, 1962 ed., Vol. 10, p. 196, "Forrestal, James Vincent") But we must remember that not all politicians are equally thick-skinned to the common, every-day disappointments of public life.
§ 5 ¶ 4-- The sort of invasion mentioned in Roswell, although there is no specific indication as to what sort of documentation is behind the allegation that Forrestal knew of a massive invasion by extraterrestrials, is not out-of-line with several prophecies described in the Bible. Jude 14-15 makes, perhaps the earliest reference to such an invasion, "Yes, the seventh one [in line] from Adam, Enoch [c. 3,404 BCE], prophesied also regarding them, when he said: 'Look! Jehovah came with his holy myriads, to execute judgment against all, and to convict all the ungodly concerning all their ungodly deeds that they did in an ungodly way, and concerning all the shocking things that ungodly sinners spoke against him."
§ 5 ¶ 5-- Jesus Christ suggested a similar scenario: "When the Son of man arrives in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit down on his glorious throne." Earlier, he had described a "great tribulation such as has not occurred since the world's beginning until now, no, nor will occur again. In fact, unless those days were cut short, no flesh would be saved; but on account of the chosen ones those days will be cut short." Then "immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then the sign of the Son of man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will beat themselves in lamentation, and they will see the Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he will send forth his angels with a great trumpet sound, and they will gather his chosen ones together from the four winds, from one extremity of the heavens to their other extremity." (Matthew 25:31; 24:21-22; 29-31) One may, however, do little more than wait to see what the enigmatic "sign of the Son of man" will turn out to be; however as usual, there are historic clues.
§ 5 ¶ 6-- Jesus also gave a sign, from the prophet Daniel (Daniel 9:26), for his disciples to look for, indicating the time of the end for Jerusalem in the first century generation. "Therefore when you catch sight of the disgusting thing that causes desolation, as spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in a holy place, (let the reader use discernment,) then let those in Judea begin fleeing to the mountains." (Matthew 24:15-16) When the Roman armies surrounded Jerusalem in 66 CE, the Christians recognized the sign Jesus had described, and they fled the city when the Romans temporarily abandoned the seige for no apparent reason, giving those who desired to obey Jesus's advice the opening to leave the city. Four years later, the Roman armies suddenly returned to destroy Jerusalem and most of those who ignored Jesus's instructions.
§ 5 ¶ 7-- The final "sign of the Son of man" might be related to a similar surrounding of the earth by his own forces with concommitant celestial sights. The Revelation, the apocalyptic visions delivered to John by an angel from God through Jesus, contains many similar "signs." Revelation 9:16 begins the description of a "cavalry" charge as four angels that hold back God's retribution on a rapidly deteriorating race are untied. 200,000,000 war horses breathing fire, smoke, and brimstone descend, and a third of mankind is killed by three plagues of which the cavalry is but one. "But the rest of the men who were not killed by these plagues did not repent of the works of their hands...of their murders nor of their spiritistic practices nor of their fornication nor of their thefts." Chapter 14, beginning with verse 18 provides another graphic description of a further 'harvest' of the 'vine of the earth,' with a treading of the "wine press of the anger of God...and blood came as high up as the bridles of the horses." These, of course, are "signs," but the thrust of the symbolism is unmistakable.
§ 5 ¶ 8-- A problem with the "sign of the Son of man" being considered an antitypical fulfillment of the "disgusting thing causing desolation" in connection with Jerusalem is the fact that Jesus's application of Daniel's prophecy was for the purpose of salvation of those seeing the "sign" and fleeing to avoid the desolation of the city. In the final fulfillment, those listening while it is still "Jehovah's acceptable year" have already fled to the place of safety before the "sign of the Son of man" appears. When it does appear, it is too late to flee, as evidenced by the reaction of "all the tribes of the earth." They "will beat themselves in lamentation." In fact, Revelation 16:21 indicates that when mankind in general finally recognizes the truthfulness of the weighty pronouncements of God, symbolized as 'hailstones weighing 100 pounds each,' they will 'blaspheme God due to the unusually great plague of hail.' They "see the Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory," but too late, in much the same manner as the general populace in Noah's day recognized the truthfulness of what he had been proclaiming when it started to rain. Jehovah had closed the door of the ark seven days before the marathon rain began. (Genesis 7:9-10, 16; Luke 4:19)
§ 5 ¶ 9-- However, if we examine the original prophecy in Daniel, we do not find provision for escape mentioned. Jesus apparently added it for the salvation of his disciples. The original prophecy simply states, "And the city and the holy place the people of a leader that is coming will bring to their ruin. And the end of it will be by the flood [of an army]. And until [the] end there will be war; what is decided upon is desolations....And upon the wing of disgusting things there will be the one causing desolation; and until an extermination, the very thing decided upon will go pouring out also upon the one lying desolate." (Daniel 9:26b, 27b) Jesus's projected "sign of the Son of man" may involve the whole world of mankind rather than merely a literal "city," and the "leader that is coming" may be the resurrected Jesus Christ himself rather than a mere human militarist.
§ 5 ¶ 10-- Paul, writing to the Thessalonian congregation (c. 50 CE) described Jesus in his role as Commander-in-chief of myriads of angels, "Because the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a commanding call, with an archangel's voice and with God's trumpet...." (1 Thessalonians 4:16) The archangel is the "chief" or "principle" angel, "exalted...to a superior position". (Philippians 2:9) In the scriptures the word, archangel, is never found in the plural. There is only one archangel. The word is also associated with the name Michael, the only holy angel, other than Gabriel, named in the Bible. Jesus, before coming to earth as a human, was evidently "one of the foremost [angelic] princes, the prince of [Daniel's] people." (Jude 9; Daniel 10:13, 20, 21; 12:1)(Insight On the Scriptures, Vol. 1, "Archangel," p. 156,; Vol.2, "Michael," p. 393-4)
§ 5 ¶ 11-- You may recall that John H. Andrews, in researching the book The Extraterrestrials and Their Reality, attributed much of his information to ET's. Two of the principles he maintains they communicated to him may apply at this point:
- 1) "We (the ET's) are not here to control or rule you, but to guide you."
§ 5 ¶ 12-- Even though termed a "king," "King of kings and Lord of lords," Jesus Christ has "guided" and will "guide" remaining humans rather than "lord it over them" as he informed his prospective co-rulers at Luke 22:25-27 and on several other occasions. (Matthew 11:30; John 8:32)
- 2) "The Earth will soon undergo tremendous, cataclysmic changes. When these
- changes are completed, less than 1/1,000 of the present population will still be
- alive!" (compare Revelation 19:15, 19-21)(Awake! 11/8/90, p. 11)
§ 5 ¶ 13-- It may be significant that the approximate human population of the earth at this writing is in excess of 5 billion persons (5,000,000,000), and a little over 5 million of them are Jehovah's witnesses (1/1,000). Coincidence? Perhaps. Or is someone trying to tell us something?
§ 5 ¶ 14-- It is also important to point out that whatever "cataclysmic changes" take place during the "great tribulation," will be directed by the Supreme One and His cosmic companions toward their enemies, not toward the entire human race, and not toward the animals or plants, for which the tribulation is intended as a defense against those "ruining the earth." (Revelation 11:18) Revelation 16:13-16 mentions specifically that "the kings of the entire inhabited earth" are gathered by "expressions inspired by demons" to "the war of the great day of God the Almighty." Although the rest of mankind (1 in 1,000) and animal and plant life may be affected adversely at times, the battle lines are clearly drawn. The Commander-in-chief is represented as waging war, not with indiscriminate poison gas or explosive bombs or even with a widely swinging sword, but with skillfully aimed bow and arrows. (Revelation 6:2.)
§ 5 ¶ 15-- Furthermore, at Genesis 8:21, God promised Noah, "Never again shall I call down evil upon the ground on man's account, because the inclination of the heart of man is bad from his youth up; and never again shall I deal every living thing a blow just as I have done." The rainbow "in the cloud" is a sign of this promise by God, who cannot lie. (Hebrews 6:18) Considering the circumstances surrounding the, otherwise, catastrophic battle, it is not surprising that when the Commander-in-chief told John, "I am coming quickly," John replied, "Amen! Come, Lord Jesus." (Revelation 22:20)
§ 5 ¶ 16-- If James V. Forrestal had been armed with the knowledge of what sort of invasion it was to be and the purpose of the invasion, he may well have been better able to cope with the foreknowledge he is alleged to have had.
§ 6 ¶ 1-- In a recent TV interview, Will Smith, co-star of "Men in Black," was questioned about his feelings concerning the existence of extraterrestrial life. His comment had the vague resonance of something someone else once said, "I think it is arrogant to think we are the only intelligent life in the universe." Labeled as one of this summer's potential blockbuster movies, "Men in Black" is described as "inventive action-comedy loosely based on lore about mysterious dark-suited agents who harass people who've seen UFOs." (TIME, op.cit., p. 65) Having seen only "Behind the Scenes" clips and stray remarks concerning the movie, your writer must wonder which is more arrogant, to doubt the existence of extraterrestrial life or to portray them as an unlimited assortment of bizarre, often disgusting monstrosities. § 6 ¶ 2-- The fact is that existing documentation agrees with the telepathic message supposedly received by James V. Forrestal concerning there being many "species" of extraterrestrials. Since the documented extraterrestrials we are considering are "spirit" creatures, non-material beings capable, sometimes, of materializing, we are reluctant to call their various forms "species." Simply because their capability of materializing human form is most common, we should not assume that it is the only form they might take. There is documentation of their "assuming" other forms. Mark 5 and Luke 8 in the Bible are parallel accounts of the same incident. Mark 5:1 begins the account of Jesus's visit to the relatively remote country of the Gerasenes. As he got out of the boat, he was met by a man who was the victim of extraterrestrial control, demon possession, "under the power of an unclean spirit." Without going into the gruesome details given in the accounts, it is sufficient to say that the man so possessed was in a miserable situation.
§ 6 ¶ 3-- However the possessed man ran to Jesus and bowed to him. Jesus apparently recognized the man's plight and began attempting to exorsize the spirit. The man began crying out in a loud voice, "What have I to do with you, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I put you under oath by God not to torment me." The account at Luke 8:31 includes an interesting detail as well as a significant meaning for the word "torment." After Jesus determined that the man was indeed the victim of many demons, Luke, who may well have gotten the details from Peter, an eyewitness of the event, mentions that "they kept entreating him not to order them to go away into the abyss." To avoid being cast into the "abyss" of torment (total inactivity), evidently the spirits were entreating Jesus to permit them to enter into the bodies of a large herd of swine feeding on the mountain. Finally, Jesus, displaying characteristic reasonableness, complied. The demons left the man and entered the swine, and the entire herd rushed over a cliff and drowned in the sea, apparently freeing the spirits to continue their "unclean," unnatural activities among humankind. An interesting side issue, which may explain why Jesus was willing to destroy a herd of swine belonging to other individuals, possibly Jews, is that it was patently illegal for Jews to own "unclean" swine, even for sale to Gentiles, as appears to be the case with the Gerasenes. It may have been their sense of guilt, knowing Jesus's reputation and abilities, that the townspeople respectfully asked Jesus to leave the territory.
§ 6 ¶ 4-- We may deduce from these two accounts that some "species" of extraterrestrials may be willing to appear in animal forms, not necessarily materialized, but certainly controlling the actions of the animal, and not necessarily for its benefit. The classic example, perhaps the first on record, is that of the "original serpent" in the Garden of Eden. Extensive detail is not found in the account at Genesis 3:1-5, but Revelation 12:9 describes the "original serpent" as the "great dragon," none other than "the one called Devil and Satan who is misleading the entire inhabited earth." It was for the purpose of misleading that this sly spirit chose to use a serpent, "the most cautious of all the wild beasts of the field," to appear to speak to Eve, the most inexperienced human at the time. He was able to deceive her into doubting God's truthfulness and His altruism, "You positively will not die...your eyes are bound to be opened and you are bound to be like God, knowing good and bad." He persuaded Eve to act on the doubt he inspired in her.
§ 6 ¶ 5-- Satan's allegations were obviously lies because Eve later died, and her "knowing good and bad" was apparently not the absolute knowlege belonging to God, but rather a relative deciding for themselves what they would consider to be good or bad. From that point onward, mankind has been allowed the capability to decide for themselves what they consider good and bad, with little interference from God. The results have been, however, generally disastrous. Adam followed the woman God gave him into disobedience, and he also eventually died at age 930, within the appointed "day." Jesus, who was certainly a cosmic acquaintance of the angel who became the primary rebel and slanderer of God, spoke to a group of humans who insisted on following their own course in imitation of Satan, "You are from your father the Devil, and you wish to do the desires of your father. That one was a manslayer when he began, and he did not stand fast in the truth." (John 8:44; 2 Peter 3:8)
§ 6 ¶ 6-- Not all "species" of extraterrestrials, however, are malevolent. At Ephesians 3:15, a human who had been "caught away" to the "third heaven" in vision spoke of "every family in heaven" owing its name to the Father, God. The Mormon writings indicate that some spirits claim spirits other than God as their "father." Moroni, who led Joseph Smith to the golden tablets, claimed to be the "son of Mormon." This sort of insubordination is not encouraged in the true Holy scriptures. Jesus, for example, instructed his disciples, "Do not call anyone your father on earth, for one is your Father, the heavenly One." He was obviously not speaking of Mormon, a name not found in the Holy scriptures. Jesus stated that he had made another name of God manifest to his disciples. (John 6:9; 17:26) Although Mormon is obviously the head of at least one of the "families of heaven," there are other families, "species," or sorts of spirits. (Matthew 23:9; 2 Corinthians 12:1-5)
§ 6 ¶ 7-- Both the Hebrew and Greek words for "father" refer to the progenitor (one bringing forth) or lifegiver. In the true sense, the one bringing forth all things is the Creator, "God and Father of all [persons]." (Ephesians 4:6) Jesus warned his disciples that there would be those who would try to place themselves between us and the true Father. At Matthew 10:32-37, he provides a rather long list of those who might use natural affection to thrust themselves between us and Jesus and his Father. He termed such ones as actually our "enemies"; although we might naturally consider them our loved ones. Certainly the ones who are able to provide us with the opportunity for everlasting or eternal life under conditions of perfection would maintain a certain superiority of affection over those who might have provided us with no more than a transitory, temporary existence.
§ 6 ¶ 8-- Just as order and rank are common characteristics among the visible creation, there are various orders and ranks among the invisible creation. These might well be called "species" by some since the word means a "distinct kind or sort." There are several sorts of spirit creatures mentioned in the Bible. The primary division is between faithful and rebellious angels. When God pronounced sentence on Satan, personified by the visible serpent in the Garden of Eden, he spoke of Satan having "seed," or followers, sons; and he spoke of an organization of angels at enmity with Satan and his followers. Jehovah termed the body of angels faithful to himself and his purposes, "the woman," described in figurative detail in Revelation as a "great sign" in heaven, a woman "arrayed with the sun, and the moon was beneath her feet, and on her head was a crown of twelve stars, and she was pregnant." (Revelation 12:1)
§ 6 ¶ 9-- Eve, overhearing the pronouncement at Genesis 3:15, may have mistakenly thought that she was the woman mentioned. Some mistakenly think today that the woman in Revelation is Mary, Jesus's mother; but the visions of the Revelation were presented to John about 96 CE, and the happenings described therein were to "shortly take place," after 96 CE. (Revelation 1:1) The child born to the "woman" is God's kingdom, "to shepherd all the nations with an iron rod." (Revelation 12:5)
§ 6 ¶ 10-- Jesus, the king of God's kingdom, turned out to be the primary "seed of the woman" mentioned at Genesis 3:15. Satan would bruise him in the heel, not a fatal injury. He would then bruise Satan in the head, a fatal injury. As a child is born from its mother, Jesus came forth from the body of faithful angels, also called "Jerusalem above" at Galatians 4:26, to become the Son of man, the Messiah, "chosen one." Satan bruised him in the heel by maneuvering his death as a human, but he was resurrected by God and placed in position to "bring to nothing" the machinations the Devil has built up over thousands of years, then "the one having the means to cause death, the Devil" himself, will be brought to nothing. (Hebrews 2:14b)
§ 6 ¶ 11-- We have already discussed the "foremost" angel, the "archangel," probably not a "species" in himself. Also of very high rank in privileges and honor among the angels are the seraphs, who are stationed about Jehovah's throne in the heavens, sometimes calling to one another in antiphonal song concerning Jehovah's holiness and glory. § 6 ¶ 12-- The duties and responsibilities of the cherubs indicate that they are also of high rank. The cherubs seen in Ezekiel's vision correspond to runners accompanying the celestial chariot of God. Cherubs were posted at the East entrance of the Garden of Eden to "guard the way to the tree of life." As guardian figures, images of cherubs were part of the decorum of the tabernacle in the wilderness and also of Solomon's temple. Jewish tradition holds that these figures were covered with gold and had human form of glorious beauty with "wings of a spirit" to represent their heavenly origin. Evidence presented in Ezekiel 28:11-19 indicates that Satan was originally a powerful "covering" (protecting) cherub in the Garden of Eden. Having chosen to rebel and to slander God, Satan is sentenced by God himself, "I shall put you as profane out of the mountain of God, and I shall destroy you, O cherub that is covering." (Insight On the Scriptures, op. cit., "Cherub," pp. 431-432)
§ 6 ¶ 13-- The great body of angels serve as messengers, agents, and deputies of the Most High God. They often serve as executioners of the divine purpose, which may include deliverance of the godly as well as destruction of the ungodly. (Insight On the Scriptures, op. cit., "Angel," pp. 106-108)
§ 6 ¶ 14-- Since Jesus describes himself arriving "in glory, and all his angels with him" to settle matters with "all the nations," and since it is "all the kings of the inhabited earth" that are gathered by "inspired expressions of demons" to battle God Almighty and his forces at the battle of Armageddon, there will be many "species" of angels involved; but certainly not all the species of angels, as we have seen, will be "with him." A minority, described as a "third of the stars" will be against him. They are "dragged" by the tail of the "fiery-colored dragon," Satan, hurled to the vicinity of the earth as the result of a war in heaven. (Revelation 12:3-10; 16:14-16) Humans in general, who remain ignorant of the contest, are merely pawns in a death struggle among extraterrestrials. Since the victory is a foregone conclusion, the battle is called "the war of the great day of God the Almighty," and "these will battle with the Lamb, but because he is Lord of lords and King of kings, the Lamb will conquer them." It, therefore, behooves us to choose the right side in the battle while there is still a choice available, while it is still "the acceptable year," before God's "day of vengeance" finally arrives when He will "ruin those ruining the earth." (Revelation 17:14; 11:18; Luke 4:19; Isaiah 61:2; John 3:19-21; 35-36) We may well be among those "ruining the earth" without fully realizing it.
§ 7 ¶ 1-- Your writer has tried to fill in from sources with which he is familiar documentation for the ideas presented in Roswell. Concerning "chosen" human rules influenced by ideas from the invisible realm, nearly anyone who glances at the covers of the "yellow journalism" displayed at the supermarket checkstand is familiar with the fact that many world rulers have reportedly had their spirit mediums and psychic consultants. Adolph Hitler springs to mind. Nearly every well-known fortune teller leaks to the press, yellow and otherwise, that they are the personal consultant to such-and-such prominent political leader. The political leader usually offers no comment, apparently not wishing to contradict the psychic, nor wanting to be thought "superstitious" by his/her constituents. Just good politics.
§ 7 ¶ 2-- We have already seen that Bible references to the influence of the spirit realm on worldly politics and religion are numerous. In review we need mention only "the kings of the entire inhabited earth" mentioned in the Revelation, gathered by the "inspired expressions of demons." Paul, at 1 Corinthians 10:20, agrees, "No; but I say that the things which the nations sacrifice they sacrifice to demons, and not to God." The Greek word translated "nations," ethnos may refer to ethnic groups as well as to national groups. "In the plural, the nations as distinct from Israel" (Gentiles, or those not worshiping Jehovah). (W.E. Vine, op. cit., p. 102, "Nation")
§ 7 ¶ 3-- The world empire of false religion, termed "Babylon the Great" is also reported to have become a "dwelling place of demons and a lurking place of every unclean exhalation." (Revelation 18:2)
§ 7 ¶ 4-- The history of demon influence dates, as we have seen, as far back as the Garden of Eden when the first human pair were influenced to disobedience by Satan using a dumb serpent. At Genesis 3:15, the first prophecy indicated that Satan would gain other followers, but that the group of angels faithful to God would also have followers. Although He has never stated an exact date or duration, God is often spoken of as having set an "appointed time" for settling of the issue of rightful universal sovereignty As quickly as Genesis 6 (c. 2,490 BCE) Satan's "seed" began to multiply to the point where God found it necessary to curb their influence in order to preserve the human race. (Psalm 21:9; Ezekiel 30:3; Daniel 8:19; 11:27, 35; Matthew 8:29; 24:36; Mark 13:33; Luke 21:24; Galatians 4:2; Ephesians 1:10; 1 Timothy 6:15; Hebrews 9:10; 1 Peter 4:17; Revelation 1:3; 22:10)
§ 7 ¶ 5-- Genesis 6:2 begins "The sons of the [true] God began to notice the daughters of men, that they were good-looking; and they went taking wives for themselves, namely, all whom they chose. After that Jehovah said: 'My spirit shall not act toward man indefinitely in that he is also flesh. Accordingly his days shall amount to a hundred and twenty years." The expression "sons of the true God" commonly refers to spirit sons rather than human sons as some may feel. Job 1:6 makes this obvious because it uses the expression to denote spirit sons of God assembled in God's presence in heaven, with Satan among them. Job 38:4-7 indicates that "the sons of God... shouted in applause" when God "laid the cornerstone of the earth," before any humans were on it. Psalm 89:6 relates those "in the skies" to "the sons of God." Long before the invention of aircraft. True, Adam was called "a son of God" before his sin, and Jesus was called "God's Son" because he had no sin, but few other humans measure up to the title. A limited number are "adopted" as "sons" to become "born again" spirit persons. Furthermore those spoken of in Genesis 6 were not led by God's spirit to disobey him. They "fell" from being "sons of the true God." (Luke 3:38; 1:35; Romans 8:14; Ephesians 1:5; John 3:3, 7-8, 12-13)
§ 7 ¶ 6-- Apparently around 2,490 BCE, God decided to inhibit the growth of Satan's "seed." Verse 11 indicate His reasoning, "And the earth came to be ruined in the sight of the [true] God and the earth became filled with violence." The result was a world-wide flood, which only eight humans survived to repopulate the earth.
§ 7 ¶ 7-- The "sons of the [true] God," who had materialized human bodies to marry the daughters of men, were forced to dematerialize and return to the spirit realm; however, they did not give up the perverted practices which led to their debasement. Jude 6 comments on their debasement and upon its cause, "And the angels that did not keep their original position but forsook their own proper dwelling place he has reserved with eternal bonds under dense darkness for the judgment of the great day." Their supernatural capabilities somewhat diminished, these angels continued, as we have seen, to exercise influence over mankind. (1 Timothy 4:1)
§ 7 ¶ 8-- Noah's great-grandson, Nimrod, evidently came under the influence of the rebel spirits. His name is derived from the Hebrew ma-radh', meaning "rebel." The Babylonian Talmud (Erubin 53a) suggests that he was called Nimrod "because he stirred up the whole world to rebel (himrid) against His [God's] sovereignty." (Encyclopedia of Biblical Interpretation, by Menahem M. Kasher, Vol. II, 1955, p. 79) In spite of the fact that God had promised not to bring the earth to ruin again by means of flood waters, Nimrod and his followers built a "tower with its top in the heavens" to supposedly protect themselves from a future flood. The scriptures, however, give another reason for the building project, "Come on! Let us build ourselves a city and also a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a celebrated name for ourselves, for fear we may be scattered over all the surface of the earth." (Genesis 11:4) Their activity was open rebellion against God's repeated mandate, "And as for you men, be fruitful and become many, make the earth swarm with you and become many in it." (Genesis 9:7)
§ 7 ¶ 9-- Jehovah's observation: "Look! They are one people and there is one language for them all, and this is what they start to do. Why now there is nothing that they may have in mind to do that will be unattainable for them. Come now! Let us go down and there confuse their language that they may not listen to one another's language." (Genesis 11:6-7) Thus Jehovah scattered them from there all over the earth for fear they might too quickly "ruin" the earth before the appointed time and no flesh survive. (Matthew 24:22)
§ 7 ¶ 10-- Nimrod was the first emperor. His empire eventually included the cities of Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, all in the land of Shinar, possibly the original Sumerian empire. To build his empire, Nimrod became a "mighty hunter," apparently a hunter of men, a soldier and a general, rebelling against another of God's commands given to Noah upon leaving the ark, "Your blood of your souls shall I ask back...from the hand of man, from the hand of each one who is his brother, shall I ask back the soul of man. Anyone shedding man's blood, by man will his own blood be shed, for in God's image he made man." (Genesis 9:5-6)
§ 7 ¶ 11-- In order to build his empire, Nimrod and his successors built up their own religious system, supporting their own purposes rather than God's. For that reason the world empire of false religion is, in the Revelation, called, "Babylon the Great, the mother of the harlots and of the disgusting things of the earth." (Revelation 17:5) She is pictured riding a "scarlet-colored wild beast that is full of blasphemous names and that had seven heads and ten horns," a representation of human imperial rule. (verse 3) She is also pictured as "drunk on the blood of the holy ones," indicating her persistent, severe persecution of true religion and its proponents (verse 6).
§ 7 ¶ 12-- Isaiah 10:8, describing the king of Assyria, which Jehovah planned to use to punish an "apostate nation," describes beastlike human kings, rulers, under the influence of demon princes, "Woe to those who are enacting harmful regulations...to take much spoil and to take much plunder...he will scheme, because to annihilate is in his heart.... For he will say, 'Are not my princes at the same time kings?" Some 200 years after Isaiah's writing, Daniel, in Babylon, was informed by an angelic messenger of the influence that demon princes have over human kings. Daniel is first given a series of visions in which specific human governments are pictured as huge beasts. (Daniel 7:17-18) These are described in contrast to "the holy ones of the Supreme One [who] will receive the kingdom, and they will take possession of the kingdom for time indefinite." (verse 18)(See also Daniel 2:44-45)
§ 7 ¶ 13-- Daniel next sees two more beasts, one a ram, the other a male of the goats. Daniel 8:15-20 describes the angel Gabriel explaining the visions to Daniel. The ram with two horns stands for the kings of Media and Persia, and the hairy he-goat stands for the king of Greece. These two beasts are parallel representations of the middle two of the four beasts of the previous vision. Since the beasts are presented in chronological order, the first of the four huge beasts represents Babylon, followed by Media-Persia, Greece, and Rome and its successors. The details of succession, recorded as they were 500 years BCE, offer remarkable historic accuracy.
§ 7 ¶ 14-- In the third year of Cyrus, Daniel was given a trance-like vision. Those with Daniel on the river bank ran, leaving Daniel alone with the apparition, who addressed him, "I have come because of your words. But the prince of the royal realm of Persia was standing in opposition to me for twenty-one days, and, look! Michael, one of the foremost princes [who eventually becomes the archangel (Jude 9; Revelation 12:7)], came to help me; and I, for my part, remained there beside the kings of Persia. And I have come to cause you to discern what will befall your people in the final part of the days, because it is a vision yet for the days [to come]." (Daniel 10:12b-14)
§ 7 ¶ 15-- The apparition continues speaking to Daniel, "Do you really know why I have come to you? And now I shall go back to fight with the prince of Persia. When I am going forth, look! also the prince of Greece is coming. However, I shall tell you the things noted down in the writing of truth, and there is no one holding strongly with me in these [things] but Michael, the prince of you people. (Daniel 10:20-21) In the succeeding chapters, the messenger tells Daniel how the immediate political history of Babylon, Persia, and Greece would eventuate into the history of the "time of [the] end," when "Michael will stand up...And there will certainly occur a time of distress such as has not been made to occur since there came to be a nation until that time." (Daniel 12:1-2)
§ 7 ¶ 16-- "And the ones having insight will shine like the brightness of the expanse; and those who are bringing the many to righteousness, like the stars to time indefinite, even forever...and the true knowledge will become abundant." (Daniel 12:3)
§ 7 ¶ 17-- We need only apply this background information to similar visions found in the Revelation to see that the "time of the end" is some time after the first century CE, likely in this century, because all the prophecies concerning the "time of the end" of Satanic rule point to our generation. Nebuchadnezzar's tree dream, interpreted by Daniel (Daniel 2:36-45), points to our generation as the one experiencing the "time of the end." We have seen that the seven-headed dragon with ten horns of Revelation 12:3-10 represents Satan the Devil, the leader of the rebellious extraterrestrials. The seven heads symbolize his spiritual nature and the source of his power. The ten horns symbolize the earthly exercise of his power over mankind, using whatever means at his disposal. Other beastly organizations of human government with authority from Satan often resemble the dragon. (Revelation 17:3, 9-10; 13:1-2)
§ 7 ¶ 18-- The renowned eighteenth century English jurist William Blackstone wrote, concerning the relative importance of the two rival influences: "This law of nature [natural law of the Creator of Nature], being co-eval with [the same age as] mankind and dictated by God himself, is of course superior in obligation to any other. It is binding over all the globe, in all countries, and at all times: no human laws are of any validity, if contrary to this." Blackstone added, concerning a second manifestation of the Creator's law: "Upon these two foundations, the law of nature and the law of revelation [revealed law as contained in the Bible], depend all human laws; that is to say, no human laws should be suffered to contradict these." Jesus Christ anticipated Blackstone's legal opinion by several centuries when he was asked a question concerning paying taxes to Caesar, representing human imperial government at the time, "Pay back Caesar's things to Caesar, but God's things to God." (Mark 12:17) Jesus's teaching was reflected in the attitude of his disciples when they were commanded by the High Court of the Jews not to "make any utterance upon the basis of the name of Jesus." Peter and John responded, "Whether it is righteous in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, judge for yourselves. But as for us, we cannot stop speaking about the things we have seen and heard." (Acts 4:18-20)(See also Blackstone's Commentaries on the laws of England, Chase, New York, Baker, Voorhis and Company, 1938, pp. 5-6)
§ 7 ¶ 19-- Noah was instructed by an extraterrestrial how to build the ark. Moses was instructed by an extraterrestrial as to how the nation of Israel was to be conducted. Elijah was comforted and instructed by an extraterrestrial as to how he was to continue his commission. We are not allowed the space to list them all here, but the prime example was Jesus Christ himself, admittedly on a personal level with his Father in heaven. He was informed of his role by a "voice from the heavens" when he was baptized by John the Baptizer. (Matthew 3:17) He was assisted by angels after his temptation by Satan in the wilderness. (Matthew 4:11) He quoted incessantly from the Hebrew scriptures and called them God's word and "the truth," much of them delivered in one way or another by angelic representatives. (John 17:17, 19; Acts 7:30, 38) He was strengthened by an "angel from heaven" on the night of his arrest. (Luke 22:43) "Jehovah's angel" apparently had some hand in Jesus's resurrection, informing his disciples. (Matthew 22:2-6)
§ 7 ¶ 20-- Jesus's disciples also had experiences with extraterrestrials, including Jesus himself after his resurrection. (Matthew 28:9-10, 18-20; Luke 24:4-7, 15-29; John 20:16-17, 26-27; 21:4-7, 15-19; Acts 1:6-11; 5:19; 9:4-5; 10:22; 12:11, 23)
§ 7 ¶ 21-- As you see, the truth is "out there." And it comes knocking at your front door. (Revelation 3:20) Jesus taught his disciples to go to the homes of the people, and he instructed them to continue doing so after his death as a human and his return to the parallel invisible universe. When they approach you, listen to them. It may well save your life...forever. (Luke 10:5-6; Matthew 28:18-20; 1 Timothy 4:16)
§ 7 ¶ 22-- If you listen to his enemies, it may well cost you your life, as it has many. Consider the result to "cultists like the Heaven's Gaters, who are an enormous source of embarrassment to their comparatively sober-minded confreres [other UFOers]." (TIME, op. cit., p. 64) Remember Jim Jones? And the Branch Davidians? It is a real life and death issue, not just a joke. (Genesis 19:14; 1 John 2:17)
